Junior Book D provides opportunities for students to practice brainstorming, planning, and organizing when developing stories. Students are taught to make sentences more interesting by using strong adjectives and active verbs, replacing weak words, and developing voice and emotion. Both nonfiction and fiction writing exercises are included.

Junior Book E introduces compound sentences. Students write more detailed stories as they learn to use descriptive language in addressing plot, characters, setting, point of view, and expand the middle of the story to make it more interesting. Practice writing activities include writing in different genres such as science fiction, fables, and adventure, summarizing the content of favorite books, responding to published works, and writing five paragraph stories.

Junior Book F teaches students to use a variety of sentences starters to make writing more interesting. Figures of speech are introduced to help students develop characters. Students are encouraged to work independently to edit and revise their writing while continuing to improve their proofreading and editing skills.
